Jammers Youth BB4LL Tournament now open for registration!
.
Here you go! The one & only 4on4 youth tournament these holidays!
Project Hoopz will be running our 2nd BB4LL tournament in December 2008!
This is a format that those who play street ball in Singapore will be quite familiar with, but there has never been a tournament like this. 4-on-4 basketball half-court style, fast and furious, more crowded than the usual 3-on-3, but it also means more team play, more defense... basically more of everything! And definitely more fun!
Teams of 6 (including 2 reserves) can now sign up for this tournament. Youth (guys) between 13 to 19 (as of 19 Dec) are eligible. Unlike many tournaments held locally, this one's open to all nationalities! So you will get to play with the best young players from around the world! Grab your buddies & form a team now!
Team registration is $90 per team (it's not much, works out to only $15 per person!) Registered players will all receive a goodie bag worth the money, sponsored by our generous sponsors! First 10 teams that sign up before 30 Nov will receive an exclusive goodie bag item. So don't wait till the last minute to sign up.
Closing date for registration is 7 December 2008. Grab the registration form from our website or email projecthoopz@mail2basketball.com for a copy.

Jammers "Sweet J" Shootout
.
This shootout was a fun contest for participants of the Jammers BB4LL Tournament (also meant to give the players a break before the final games). A total of 19 participants took part in the shooting contest. Prizes were sponsored by N.Y.D.C., World of Sports, and Milo.
Here are the highlights in a music video format.
The winner of the Sweet J shootout was Tony from Black Diamond, who went 6-for-7 from the field. Excellent job!

Day 2 of Jammers BB4LL Tournament (Men's Open)
.
.
Day 2 was a quieter affair compared to the hustle and bustle of Day 1, as only half the total number of teams were given the opportunity to advance to the finals round of the tournament. The finals round was played in a double-knockout format, where teams moved up the table accordingly.
Apart from the Finals, the next highlight of the day was perhaps the Jammers "Sweet J" Shootout contest. The winner could walk home with prizes sponsored by N.Y.D.C, Milo and World of Sports. Players had to shoot from 7 designated spots on the court within a minute and make as many shots as possible.
Response for the contest was enthusiastic as close to 20 participants signed up for this. The contest was won by Tony from Black Diamond. The National Squad player hit 6 out of 7 shots, of which 2 were 3-pointers. His score was 2-up over the next best score of 4 of 7 achieved by Jason Tan from SlamJam United and Mike, also from Black Diamond.
One female supporter of Black Diamond requested to have a go at the contest and she did join in the fun as the surprise contestant. What was funny about the contest was that many missed the 'easiest' shot right under the basket!
After the shootout, the Semi-Finals and Finals continued. The top 4 teams were Black Diamond, 5 Aces, Corn-Tall and SlamJam United. The youngest team to reach the Finals was 5 Aces, which eventually lost out to Black Diamond. SlamJam United narrowly beat Corn-Tall by 1 single point to seal the victory, marking their perfect run in the tournament. They won all 11 games played through the two days.
The day closed with a closing speech, with the event organizers Project Hoopz Pte. Ltd. thanking all participants and the sponsors, Milo (Nestle Singapore), World of Sports, Spalding, N.Y.D.C., 1Physiotherapy and Igcarus for their support of the tournament.
The prize presentation ceremony commenced after the speech, with the top 3 teams collecting their Jammers BB4LL Tournament trophies, prize money and other prize items. The event ended with the top three teams taking a group photo together.
We hope that everyone enjoyed the tournament and had fun playing basketball and meeting new challenges. The youth tournament would be coming up next. So, keep a look out for us!

Vids from Day 1's action!
.
Some of the more interesting video footage from Day 1 of the Jammers BB4LL Tournament is up!
The Opening Ceremony for the tournament was honoured by local artiste Yet, who also joined the competition with a team he formed from readers of MyPaper who called in to sign up to play with him. Here is Yet performing his hit "Crazy Yet" or 那个瘋狂的人是我。
Team NRG has a nice video here, enjoying the competition and music.
I also have this one from Leslie, Team SlamJam United, who gave us a golden moment with some fancy dribbling.

Day 1 of Jammers BB4LL Tournament (Men's Open)
.
The anticipation was really high for this unique tournament, which showcases an international pool of players of all ages, coming together to enjoy the game of basketball in a never-seen-before style of tournament play, 4-on-4!The Italian mob? Nah, just a few good friends!
Many players arrived early to warm up and the excitement was built up from the start, with guys dunking the basketball and showing off their electrifying moves. Everyone had a point to prove, even the youngest guys on the court.
The youngest guys on the court, with the biggest hearts
Fearless they are, 14 year olds, who decided to participate, even though they knew they were going up against tougher and bigger opponents, some of whom were adults more than double their age. If anything, I would give a round of applause to these young guns who show immense heart and courage. I'm sure they will do well in time to come. Keep it up!
The day started off with local artiste Yet doing the opening honours and belting out his hit song, Crazy Yet. Which incidentally was the name of the team Yet got from mypaper, which we would like to thank for putting up a little snippet there earlier this week. 4 readers of mypaper almost immediately signed up to play alongside Yet.
Yet singing his hit "Crazy Yet"
Apart from giving his full-hearted support to the tournament, Yet was also responsible for the fabulous sound system, which gave the tournament a lot of umphh, as players grooved to the tempo and played their basketball.
Decked in the red Jammers exclusive tournament tee, the players entered the games with a lot of enthusiasm and it showed in the way they played. The teams played all day from 9am onwards and those on the sidelines were often found cheering for the underdogs in various matches.
After a grueling first round, the top 8 teams emerged from the two groups. Topping Group A was SlamJam United (quickly becoming the hot favourite after winning all their games in this group), followed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Ballers, 3rd place Brokefive Mountain, and 4th place 5 Aces. Group B was led by Corn-Tall, followed by Siam Forty, Black Diamond and Saboteurs.
These 8 teams will fight it out in the double knockout table on Sunday morning. So if you are free, join us at HomeTeam NS Clubhouse, Balestier for this exciting morning of basketball fun!
There will also be a Jammers "Sweet J" shootout in the midst of the action, so participants of the tournament can register themselves for a spot to win some prizes!
